Autumn Walks- Our best kept secret.

Being a local and having lived in Cumbria all my life, I couldn’t live anywhere else.

Seeing the clear starry nights, watching the sun go down on the Lake District mountains, as well as spending a summers day on a boat with friends watching the children play and swim in open water, are treats to behold.

However, my favourite place to visit at this time of the year has to be Levens Park. This is certainly not a secret to the locals and visitors should not miss out on the spectacular treasure trove of golden hues for a walk to be savoured and forever remembered.

Located near to the southern gateway of the Lake District National Park, the walk starts at Levens Hall and reveals some of the most beautiful and timeless scenery. The estate welcomes dogs, but they must be kept on a lead.

Levens Park is part of a much earlier medieval deer park or hunting enclosure and was landscaped by Beaumont approximately 300 years ago, around the time the hall’s gardens where modelled.

Beaumont emphasised his talents by planting the now ancient avenue of oaks, used in pastimes to guide carriage drivers to the hall.

The walk follows the River Kent, along a natural path, weaving through the park with tress scattered along its shore line.

Our favourite part of the park is spotting the Bagot goats and Black Fallow Deer, although not tame, they are very used to families and couples exploring their territory.

So if you like to see heritage and want a short walk to catch some Cumbrian air why not visit the park and see the beautiful orange, brown and red leaves falling over the pathways and meadow.
